Dental Crowns in West Palm Beach and Jupiter FL

Picture of a drawn white molar wearing a golden jeweled crownTeeth often disintegrate and get damaged for a variety of reasons that could make them susceptible to decay as well as make it difficult to chew your food effectively. A tooth that has become misshapen or has disintegrated completely could be resurrected with the help of a dental crown, which has been proven to be a far more effective procedure than traditional methods such as fillings. Fractured teeth for instance, can be restored completely bringing great comfort to you with a dental crown.

When do you Need a Dental Crown?

Typically, dental crowns are required when teeth are damaged in such a way that fillings do not help or when existing fillings are damaged beyond repair. A few examples when we use dental crowns at Dr. Garine’s office include:

•  Chipped teeth.
•  To top dental implants.
•  A tooth that has had a root canal.
•  Enhancing the appearance of a decayed or damaged tooth.

There are three different categories of dental crowns that we use that have proven to be the most effective. Every case is different and will depend on the exact situation before we can determine the type of crown that will provide the best results.

Porcelain Crowns in West Palm Beach FL

Porcelain dental crowns have been the most popular among patients in need of crowns for many years. One of the primary reasons for this is the fact that the crowns match the color of your natural teeth. Porcelain crowns are almost always favored when it comes to crowns for front teeth; however, they are also effective for teeth in the posterior part of the mouth when they suffer excessive decay or damage, but they can be slightly less durable than the other options you have for posterior teeth.

Porcelain-Metal Crowns in Jupiter FL

Porcelain metal crowns combine the aesthetic value of porcelain that results in a crown that is of the same color as natural teeth with metals that help in making the crown a durable one for those posterior teeth. Although it is true that plain porcelain crowns are the most popular, crowns made of a fusion of porcelain and metal have seen a spike in popularity over the past few years due to the increased durability that they provide. As is the case with porcelain crowns, there is a possibility that they might break, but the metallic core of the crown remains intact. This usually means that there is no need to go for a new crown immediately, allowing you to remain comfortable and helping you to avoid a dental emergency.

Golden Crowns in West Palm Beach FL

Golden crowns are quite literally the gold standard for dental crowns due their durability and the distinctive color of the metal. These crowns are not suitable for front teeth; however, the teeth in the posterior part of the mouth are where a strong, resilient and durable crown is needed for obvious reasons and golden crowns fit that bill. Additionally, those who have the habit of grinding their teeth would not cause as much damage to the golden crown due to the inherent durability of the metal to last. In addition, gold is perfectly adaptable to the tissues, which again makes it an excellent choice for anyone looking for new dental crowns to help strengthen rear teeth.

The Process

The process involved in getting a dental crown is pretty standard and does not take more than two appointments to finish the process. In order to prepare the area, the area is cleaned of any infection or dead material. An impression of the tooth is then taken so that the crown can be customized according to your specific needs. In the meantime, you are provided with a temporary crown, which needs to be in place for two weeks. During this time your diet may need to be modified slightly in order to avoid damage to the area.

After that period, the temporary crown is removed and the teeth cleaned again before the permanent crown is put into place. Our dentists work with extreme care in order to make sure that there is no problem at all while biting or chewing food once the permanent crown is placed. An ill fitted crown can be far more damaging for the patient, which is why we work with the highest quality and integrity to ensure your comfort. Once your crown is placed, it is very important that you follow proper oral hygiene habits in order to ensure that your dental crown remains in good condition for many years to come.
